How Kelsea Ballerini’s mother reacted to the song “Sorry Mom”

Kelsea Ballerini’s mom, Carla Denham, had a great reaction to her daughter’s new song.

IN “Sorry, Mom” Ballerini apologizes for some things she’s done in her life that would make her mom cringe, like coming home smelling like cigarettes or missing her birthday.

“I may have run a red light / We may have fought a few times / We cut different cloth / But inside we’re the same blood,” she sings. “I know it took a little tough love to become the woman you’re proud of.”

Speaking to Willie Geist on the October 26 episode of Sunday Sitdown, Ballerini said her changing relationship with her mom is “one of the most beautiful things” that has happened to her in the last few years.

The “Penthouse” singer explained that she and her mom went from “mother to daughter, woman to woman.”

“She was a helicopter mom growing up and now we’ve finally gotten to the point where I’m 31 now and we’re at this wonderful stage in life where I can say, ‘Hey, listen.’ , I know that you probably wanted to shield me from several decisions that I have made in my life. But in the end I’m safe and I’m happy and you love me and I love you. ‘” she says. “And that’s all we can ask for.”

Ballerini said her mom’s reaction to the song was sincere and heartfelt.

“She finished listening and said, ‘She has nothing to be sorry for,’ which I thought was very sweet,” Ballerini recalls.

On InstagramBallerini said “Sorry Mom” is “one of the first songs” she wrote for her new album, “Patterns.”

She told Willie that the album was about growing up.

“I think I’m really interested in femininity and growing up,” she said. “I think this has been a big theme in my life and like my personal discoveries and maturation over the past few years. And that’s certainly the pattern of this album.”

Ballerini’s album “Patterns” will be released on October 25.
