World number one Jannik Sinner faces a difficult path to the final.
ATP Paris Masters 2024 draw was disappointing Jannik Sinner. The Italian faces the prospect of facing Ben Shelton after being given a bye in the second round. This is a tough draw for the world No. 1 until the title round, where he will have the opportunity to renew his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz this is an opportunity.
Having confirmed its status No. 1 ATP at the end of the year, Sinner will be looking to add to his three ATP Masters 1000 victories in 2024 and his eighth overall.
In the 1/8 finals we have difficult matches against Holger Rune or Matteo Arnaldi. In the last eight matches, Sinner could face one of three in-form players – Alex de Minaur, Jack Draper or Taylor Fritz.
Rune, who will make his debut against Matteo Arnaldi, will be aiming to repeat his Paris title bid in 2022. Scandinavia won a three-set final against Novak Djokovic for his first ATP 1000 trophy.
Fritz will open against Jiri Legecki or Jack Draper in the second round. A third round clash with Alex de Minaur is expected in the round of 16. A potential quarterfinal rematch against Sinner could follow him being rescheduled from the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. Holger Rune is also a possible contender in the last eight.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz will have reason to smile after an easy draw. First up for the Spaniard in the second round is Nicolas Jarry, followed by France’s Hugo Humbert and Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul in the last eight. Possible showdown with 2020 champion and fourth seed Daniil Medvedev reaching the semi-finals is the first test he will have to face.
With results in Paris likely to determine the remaining spots at the ATP Finals, Djokovic’s absence from the 2024 ATP Paris Masters means confirmation of the final eight squad is unlikely until November.
Djokovic, the defending champion, announced in midweek that he will not participate in the Paris Masters this year. The decision not to miss the Paris Masters leaves his qualification for the ATP Finals hanging in the balance. Djokovic is currently ranked sixth in the Live Race to Turin.
