SAPS arrests 95 suspects and recovers vehicles and firearms

Rapid Response Services, comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members across Gauteng, arrested 95 suspects between October 11 and 17, recovering 49 motor vehicles and eight firearms.

The members took part in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations have resulted in 44 arrests for serious crimes including assault and GBH, armed robbery, common robbery, fraud, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary equipment, burglary, use of a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner and intentional damage to property. .

Other cases include kidnapping, murder, business burglary, hijacking, obstruction of official duties, criminal battery, violation of a protective order, illegal immigrant, attempted motor vehicle theft and driving under the influence of alcohol.

A total of 49 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, including 11 arrests for possession of these vehicles.

Eight unlicensed firearms were recovered during six arrests.

During further police surveillance, 34 arrests were made for drug possession and trafficking.

Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among the products seized in these separate incidents.

In these cases the investigation continues.

The suspects will appear before local magistrate courts across Gauteng.
