Waterbury, CT man arrested in connection with armed robbery

WATERBURY – A Hartford man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a local shoe store, police said.

Jose Rivera-Gonzalez, 52, was taken into custody on Oct. 23 following a search by Waterbury detectives and Hartford police.

The robbery occurred at Snipes on October 15 at 6:26 p.m. A male suspect armed with a handgun threatened store employees and physically assaulted one before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

An investigation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau identified Rivera-Gonzalez as the suspect.

During the search of his home, detectives found evidence linking him to the robbery and seized ammunition.

Rivera-Gonzalez, a convicted felon, has an extensive criminal record, including prior charges of robbery, kidnapping, firearms violations, unlawful restraint and theft.

His last known case with Waterbury police was in 2013 for robbing a TD Bank, after which he was placed on federal probation.

He is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, fifth-degree robbery and criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition.

Rivera-Gonzalez is being held by the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $75,000 bond.
