Which starter pack should you choose in the Pokemon TCG Pocket tutorial?

Didn’t you know you had to make a tough decision so early? Don’t worry, we’ll help you get what you need in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

The first thing you’ll need to do in Pokemon TCG Pocket is choose your starter pack in the tutorial, which will effectively give you your first deck. You won’t get those decks right away, but it will affect the deck you get when you reach the Battles tutorial. It’s very useful to know what’s actually in these packages, so here’s an overview of each package.

Which Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket Starter Deck is the Best?

Each starter pack contains five cards, including an EX Pokemon card, and you also get a full art card during your Wonder Pick in the tutorial. Later, after you get to the Battles section, you’ll unlock a free deck of cards containing the cards below.

Community cards

First, all three decks have a number of community cards. These are:

  • Farfetch’d
  • Jiggypuff
  • Pokeball x 2
  • Professor research x 2
  • Rattata x 2
  • Ratify

The decks then have a number of unique cards to form the rest of the starting deck.

Genetic Apex Charizard Pack (Pinsir Deck)

  • Cotton x2
  • Perform x2
  • Paragraph x2
  • Parasection x1
  • Pinsir x1
  • Scyther x1
  • Whimsicott x1

With this deck you also get an Exeggutor EX with the first choice, and a Charmander full art card.

Genetic Apex Pikachu Pack (Rapidash Deck)

  • Centiskorch x1
  • Growlithe x2
  • Heatmor x1
  • Magmarx1
  • Ponyta x2
  • Rapidashx1
  • Sizzlipede x2

With this deck you also get an Arcanine EX with the first choice, and a Squirtle full art card.

Genetic Apex Mewtwo Pack (Sandslash Deck)

  • Cubone x2
  • Hitmonchanx1
  • Mienfoo x2
  • Mienshao x1
  • Onix x1
  • Sand spit x2
  • Sand stripe x1

With this deck you also get a Marowak EX with the first choice, and a Bulbasaur full art card.

And there you go, while the decks are all pretty close, you should really consider long term deck plans and go from there. I have a feeling that the Mewtwo boosters will generally include some of the better cards, but your first choice should be based on which of the above cards appeals to you the most.

I went with the Charizard pack because I like the evolution potential of some of them and have been pulling Mewtwo boosters ever since.
