BC man charged with shoplifting now faces theft and weapons charges

Alleged shoplifting incidents occurred in Vancouver’s Richmond, while the more serious allegations are based only in Vancouver.

A Vancouver man first accused of shoplifting is back behind bars and now facing charges of theft and weapons robbery.

Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Joseph Galati on October 30 postponed Samir Aissani’s arraignment until November 13 so the man can speak with lawyer Guillaume Garih.

The charges in court begin with a July 9 incident in which it is alleged Aissani stole merchandise valued at $5,000 from a Richmond superstore.

Aissani is also charged with theft under $5,000 in connection with an Aug. 14 incident at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver.

Then there’s a charge of theft under $5,000 related to an incident at the Richmond Shoppers Drug Mart on Aug. 19.

Aissani was granted bail on these charges and was not in custody.

Now he faces four more charges, all of which are alleged to have occurred on October 21.

He is charged with robbing one man, carrying an imitation firearm for a dangerous purpose or to commit an indictable offence, assaulting while carrying a weapon and using an imitation firearm while attempting to elude police fleeing after allegedly committing a robbery.

Crown prosecutor Jennifer Carmichael told Galati she had spoken to Garih and agreed to a one-week adjournment to discuss various matters.

The case will return to court on November 5.
