Meet ‘Sherp’: Onondaga County’s new 3-ton rescue monster that can float on icy waters

Syracuse, NY – Onondaga County has unveiled the newest addition to its emergency rescue fleet: “Sherp,” a 10-foot, nine-passenger ATV that can blast through deep snow and chug across an open lake.

“The Sherp is an amphibious vehicle that can traverse fallen trees, gravel, swamps, marshes, snow and ice,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said Wednesday during the vehicle’s unveiling at the Onondaga Lake boat launch. “The vehicle can float and operate on ponds, lakes, rivers and frozen waters.”
