Woman banned from wearing a wig after spate of shoplifting incidents in Gloucester

A prolific shoplifter has been banned from wearing wigs after numerous attempts to disguise herself while committing thefts, police said.

Hannah Roberts had donned various headgear to get around a shoplifting ban in Gloucester city centre.

The 33-year-old had been banned from entering affiliated stores by the City Safe Scheme but had repeatedly ignored the sanction.

When challenged by staff or security officers, Roberts reportedly became abusive and fled with stolen items.

In an attempt to circumvent the ban, she had also worn various wigs to disguise herself.

However, a distinctive tattoo on her neck made it easy for staff to recognize her.

Now JPs at Gloucestershire Magistrates’ Court have given her a criminal behavior order banning her from entering the city center as well as all shops taking part in the Gloucester City Safe scheme.

Roberts, of Nettleton Road, Gloucester, is also banned from wearing a wig or hairpiece intended to alter her appearance when entering a shop premises.

Police Officer Andy Plant, from Gloucestershire Police, said: “Our retail sector is suffering because of these persistent shoplifters.

“Roberts has been the number one perpetrator of shoplifting in recent months, and we now have another tool to deal with her in the form of this criminal behavior order.

“We will continue to support our businesses in the city and its surrounding areas by tackling shoplifters and seeking further orders from the courts where possible.”
