What to watch for: The University returns to the regional round with a thrilling six-round shootout victory in a district final against Canfield after a scoreless stalemate through regulation and extra time. This isn’t the flashiest American side, with some of the generations of forwards the Preppers have fielded. But it is an efficient group that knows how to move forward and has developed an understanding and excessive awareness that has grown throughout the fall. It’s a senior-heavy group, many of whom will spend their prime time on the field for the first time in 2024 – especially as starters. Pacing the offense is Alex Borden (six goals, three assists), Joe Gilligan (five -2) and Eric Madureira (5-2). It is also a capable group in the defensive third, including wingback Aaron Moss (0-3), a stable player who brings leadership, perseverance and the ability to come in and contribute to service when needed, entails. Beating Hawken, Mentor, North Canton Hoover and Andrews Osborne and earning draws against North Ridgeville, Hudson WRA and Gilmour show what this team can do when in form. On the other side, there are a handful of teams in Twinsburg, and a familiar enemy at that. The Tigers defeated the Preppers 1-0 on September 19. Under the leadership of longtime coach Mike Lally, Twinsburg itself brings a diverse and efficient approach to offense. The Tigers are undefeated in 14 games since Sept. 7, including the only loss to date, 3-2, on Oct. 10 against News-Herald coverage area standard-bearer Beachwood. Lucas Elias (9-19) is in the lead. ), Devin Couch (12-7) and Evan Schneeman (9-7). It feels like a match in which width will play a crucial role. The US will need their best 80 (or more) of the year, but can push for a result here.
