HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Members of the Kentucky River Honors Band performed at the Hal Rogers Forum in Hazard on October 29.
The group included students from Breathitt, Harlan, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley and Perry counties.
The group started in 2023 and aimed to bring children together as a community after the 2022 flood.
Band director Bobby Shouse said it’s important to have events like this for the kids.
“We are there for the children. That’s what we’re here for. You don’t go to school to be a teacher if you’re not there for the kids,” he said. “We are willing to come here and work with them all day long. It’s a lot of fun. They’re having a good time. We are having a good time.”
The event was sponsored by the Appalachian Arts Alliance.
Shouse said the band plans to host more events like this in the future.
